Music & Lyrics: Today’s Soundtrack

When you ask me, who I am;

What is my vision? And do I have a plan?

Where is my strength? Have I nothing say?

I hear the words in my head. But I push them away.

‘Cause I stand for the power to change,

I live for the perfect day.

I love til it hurts like crazy.

I hope for a hero to save me.

I stand for the strange and lonely.

I believe there’s a better place.

I don’t know if the sky is heaven.

But I pray anyway.”

Idina Menzel, “I Stand”

There’s a wicked wind blowing across the landscape of those near and dear to me. In an attempt to process all that is swirling around –  and there’s a bunch of swirl – I can’t find the words to express myself. Music and lyrics keep running through my brain.  Many people associate all manner of things with the music playing in the background. I’m going to stick to this one day … may have the music in me, but it’s coming out. Here’s the playlist:

  • Loudon Wainwright III,  “Daughter”: “That’s my daughter in the water, everything she knows I taught her. Everything she knows. Everything I say she takes to heart.”
  • Christopher Jak, “Squeeze”
  • Jeff Buckley, “Hallelujah”
  • Bing Crosby, “What Can You Do With A General?”
  • Mary J. Blige, “Just Fine”
  • Evan & Jaron, “What She Likes”
  • Habib Koite and Bamada, “I Ka Barra”
  • Francesca Battistelli, “It’s Your Life”
  • Chris Rice, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
  • Goo Goo Dolls, “Real”
  • The Pretenders, “Back on the Chain Gang”
  • Crosby Loggins, “Better Days”
  • Mark Kano, “Walking On Broadway”
  • Kings of Leon, “Use Somebody”
  • U2, “Beautiful Day”
  • “We Need A Little Christmas”/Mame soundtrack
  • Doug Smith & Heitor Pereira, “Dueling Guitars”/August Rush soundtrack
  • Lucy Schwartz, “Count On Me”

“All you need is love.”

John Lennon

Fingers Crossed

That’s enough for today. Whew. Just a note: if I ever  write that I am listening to Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” album, call 911. Just throwing it out there …

  1. Goodness me, I only know a few of those names!

    • Hey Cin – I like to find lists like these cuz that’s how I find new stuff I like. Am always open to anything “new”. Hope you are almost finished slogging through. 🙂

  2. I got a feeling that If you listened to music with me for a day……. You would quickly be looking for a good rope, a sturdy beam, and a stool to stand on….. 🙂

  3. I hope your “swirl” settles soon…I tend to retreat into my music when I need a “break” from life’s “challenges.” Some good tunes in your list…

    P.S. I love “Blue”!

  4. I have that Idina Menzel CD. I love it!

  5. Love that Idina! For three years, I visited Lady Di in NYC; her place was literally across the street from “Wicked” and I never saw it. So dumb!

  6. I love the album, “Blue”, especially the song, “River”. If you like Jeff Buckley, you’d like Duncan Sheik’s first album. The new Corrine Bailey Rae album is very good. Your “playlist” is very good, at least the artists I know. It is amazing the powerful memories and images that are dredged up from the recesses of your brain whenever you hear a particular song (how’s that for a run-on). You’ve got a lot on your plate these days. Let the music sooth and calm your troubled mind, give you energy and purpose.

  7. check out Tommy Emmanuel….good stuff !!!

  8. I bet you wish george bush was still president now
