I Don’t Drink Outside My Zip Code

Isn’t that the best line ever? My friend, Demona, threw that down when we were discussing where to have dinner.

Topics for today include: Books, Movies, and Finds. Off we go:

Books and Movies

One of the books I recently read was The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. Historical fiction about Ernest Hemingway and his first wife, Hadley. I’ve read everything about F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald during that crazy time; it was nice to get a different perspective. And I’m damn glad I did because …. two weeks later, I saw Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. Had I not read that book, I wouldn’t have “gotten” all the nuances in the movie.  Book – good; Movie – not so much. I’ve also read Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan; really liked it until last chapter. Next up: The Man in the Rockefeller Suit by Mark Seal, Joy for Beginners by Erica Bauermeister, and Wait for Me! Memoirs by Deborah Mitford, Duchess of Devonshire.

If you are anywhere near Oxford, Mississippi, do stop by Bottletree Bakery. Everything in that place looks delicious; everything I managed to cram in my mouth was delicious. Find yourself in Houston? Head right over to ….

I swear, Relish has the very best Blueberry Cookie I’ve ever eaten. The hummus is amazing as well.

On the shoe front, a group of us stumbled upon the most comfortable sandals in the entire world in Charleston, S.C. The Charleston Shoe Co. and sister store, Savannah Shoe Co., sell these babies in an abundance of styles. Because they use a bunch of elastic and rubber soles, I could wear them every day. And, one of the sales women told me they can go in the washing machine. Won’t happen at my house because I am on a laundry strike, but you can do whatever you want.

Can't help myself

*It has been said you cannot stick your tongue out and look at the ceiling simultaneously (tendons say “no”).

You just tried it AND you can do it.

I know, because I did.

Idiots all.

  1. PLEASE tell me that those shoes are available online….???

    • Hey Katie – they are!!!!!! Google “Charleston Shoe Company” or “Savannah Shoe Company” and go to their site(s) – they are same. There are a number of styles – the one I have is “Queen” (go figure). Anyway – sizing – I wear an 8-1/2 -9 usually – the 9 is perfect for me. Once you buy one pair and wear them, you will be addicted. Let me know 🙂

  2. Shoes, books and food. What more can one ask for?

  3. Ha. I read the title of your blog to read, “I don’t THINK outside my zip code.” I like that, too.

  4. tell us what you think of “Wait for me!” I’m curious.

  5. So who does your laundry? That brutal woman who stole all your booze?

    • No, cin, I am now the brutal cleaning woman with no booze. But there is a Wash-n-Fold down the street – they wash and fold your laundry and you pay by the pound = cheap and wonderful. I only send sheets and towels.

  6. I just finished reading “One Day” by David Nicholls. I was pleasantly surprised. Not my normal choice but cleverly written.

One of my favorites is Book Thief (not to be mistaken for Art Thief) by Markus Zusak.

    • “One Day” – amazing concept, good book, loon! I’ve been meaning to read the Book Thief – will put it back on my list 🙂

      • Book Thief is well worth the read. Thanks for your list. I’ve read none of them so will have to do some investigating! I’m reading the newest Carlos Ruiz Zafon book, something… Angels. Progressing slowly-the story, that is.

  7. Ah…I remember reading…

If you want to see a fun movie, go see “Bridesmaids”…it’s raunchy and hilarious!

Wonder if there are any lower-heeled versions of those shoes…do they make them for clown feet (size 10)?

  8. I totally did the tongue thing, too.

  9. haha haha. funny. I did stick my tongue out and look up at the same time. same conclusion. I feel super silly. good thing no one is looking. i like the midnight in paris movie but then I am not reading too much into it except just a nice romantic and quirky film. 🙂

  10. Now try sneezing with your eyes open!

  11. I have thought about this ever since I read your comment – yikes, I can’t do it … yet! 🙂
